One of the most important symbols of Sweden, the Dala horse. Originally, were made as children toys. They were mostly produced in small villages in Dalarna, a region in the central Sweden. Quickly, the toy horse gained popularity in other regions in Sweden. Originally, the horses were not painted until quite later when people started to paint the horses, mostly inspired by furniture decorations. Though other colors and different designs have been available, the red colour it’s still the most popular one. The global attention came when in the World’s Fair in New York 1939, the Dala horse represented Sweden. After the event, the Dala horse was seen as one of the most popular symbols of Sweden.
